| Thomson, together with its subsidiaries, provides video technologies, systems, finished products, and services to businesses and professionals in the media and entertainment industry. It operates through three divisions: Technicolor, Thomson Connect, and Technology. The Technicolor division offers content services in the content creation process; and physical media services through film services and DVD services, including content preparation, planning, manufacturing, physical distribution services for video content, theatrical release, and release on DVD and Blu-ray. This division also provides physical distribution services for theatrical digital releases; broadcast services and media networks, which assembles video programming and/or manage distribution of video content through video networks to broadcasters, retailers, cinema exhibitors, and other enterprises; and electronic distribution services. The Thomson Connect division supplies access and home networking products, such as set-top boxes and advanced service gateways to satellite and cable network operators and telecom operators; and broadcast and network systems and equipment in hardware and software technology. The Technology division involves in various activities, such as corporate research and licensing of patents and trademarks. It offers its products and services in the United States, rest of Americas, Europe, and Asia/Pacific. Thomson was formerly known as Thomson Multimedia. The company was founded in 1982 and is based in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. |
