| Trimble Navigation Limited provides advanced positioning product solutions to commercial and government users worldwide. It operates in four segments: Engineering and Construction, Field Solutions, Mobile Solutions, and Advanced Devices. The Engineering and Construction segment offers various global positioning systems (GPS) and robotic optical surveying instruments incorporating GPS, optical, laser, radio, or cellular communication technologies for various construction process applications. The Field Solutions segment provides manual and automated navigation guidance products for tractors and other farm equipment, and positioning solutions for leveling agricultural fields, as well as geographic information system product line, which gathers information comprising features, attributes, and positions of fixed infrastructure and natural resource assets. The Mobile Solutions segment offers vehicle and mobile worker solutions. The vehicle solutions include an onboard hardware device consisting of a GPS receiver, business logic, sensor interface, and a wireless modem, as well as the communication service from/to the vehicle to its data center and access over the Internet to the application software. The mobile worker solutions comprise a handset device and software designed to automate service technician work in the field at the point of customer contact. The Advanced Devices segment provides GPS-based components, including modules and integrated sub-system solutions for the telecommunications, automotive electronics, and commercial electronics; GPS with inertial sensors for measurement of the position and attitude; GPS receivers and embedded modules used in aircraft navigation and timing applications; and GPS-enabled cell phones to provide information for outdoor recreational activities. The company sells its products primarily through dealers, distributors, and representatives. Trimble Navigation Limited was founded in 1978 and is based in Sunnyvale, California. |
