| Ultrapetrol (Bahamas) Limited, an industrial shipping company, provides marine transportation services in South America, Europe, and Asia. It serves the shipping markets for grain, forest products, minerals, crude oil, petroleum, and refined petroleum products, as well as the offshore oil platform supply market. The company operates in three segments: River, Offshore Supply, and Ocean. The River segment owns and operates river barges and pushboats that transport dry bulk and liquid cargos through the Hidrovia Region of South America. As of December 31, 2008, this segment had 591 barges and 29 pushboats with approximately 1,005,000 deadweight (dwt) capacity. The Offshore Supply segment owns and operates vessels that provide critical logistical and transportation services for offshore the petroleum exploration and production companies primarily in the North Sea and the coastal waters of Brazil. Its fleet consisted of proprietarily designed platform supply vessels, including five in operation and seven under construction. The Ocean Business segment owned and operated 10 ocean-going vessels, including 4 handy size/small product tankers that transport petroleum and petroleum products; 3 Suezmax OBO vessels and 1 Capesize vessel that transports dry cargo, such as iron ore and coal; 1 Oceangoing Pushboat; and 1 inland tank barge. Its fleet had an aggregate cargo carrying capacity of approximately 745,000 dwt tons. Ultrapetrol (Bahamas) Limited was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in Nassau, the Bahamas. |
