Union Pacific Corporation, through its subsidiary, Union Pacific Railroad Company, provides rail transportation services in North America. The company offers freight transportation services for agricultural products, including grains and related commodities, food, and beverage products; and automotive products, such as imported and exported shipments, finished vehicles, and automotive parts and materials. It also provides transportation services for chemicals, including industrial chemicals, plastics, crude oil, and liquid petroleum gases, as well as fertilizers and soda ash; and energy products comprising coal and petroleum coke. In addition, the company offers freight transportation services for industrial products comprising lumber products, paper and consumer goods, furniture and appliances, metals, and nonferrous and industrial minerals, as well as steel and construction products, such as rock, cement, and roofing materials; and intermodal imported and exported containers. As of December 31, 2011, its rail network included 31,898 route miles linking Pacific Coast and Gulf Coast ports with the Midwest and eastern United States gateways.
