    [$$] HP to Gain on PC Stabilization, Apple Bounces Back

    IDC/Gartner reported a world-wide fourth-quarter PC shipments decline of 1.5%/3.7% year-over-year (ahead of IDC/our decline expectations of 4.9%/4.7%) and a sequential growth of 4.0%/5.3% with strength driven by stable commercial demand, moderating declines in the consumer market (less impact from smartphones and tablets), promotional activity, and some benefit from builds due to component price increases. Market share continues to consolidate around the top three vendors helped, in part, by component shortages as we’d been expecting. Near-term strength in PC demand should generally be a benefit for HP, Seagate and Western Digital in our coverage.
