Top executives of Foxconn, including founder and chairman Terry Gou, visited the White House on Thursday, Taiwanese TV footage showed, as the Apple Inc supplier ponders a $7 billion-plus U.S. investment in a display-making plant. Footage aired by TVBS television on Friday showed Gou entering and leaving one of the entry gates of the White House with senior company executives including Tai Jeng-wu, Foxconn vice chairman and chief of Japan's Sharp Corp, in which Foxconn holds a two-thirds stake. When asked by reporters on his way out of the White House if he had met U.S. President Donald Trump, Gou responded: "My memory is not good.

Shares in Hon Hai Precision (2317.TW) have rallied 37% over the past year as investors get set for what many see as the start of a smartphone super-cycle thanks to the impending launch of the iPhone 8. One fan is Joseph Lai, who runs Sydney-based Platinum Asset Management's Asia fund. In a just released quarterly update, Lai runs through his thinking on why he likes the Taiwanese Apple supplier and started a position in the first quarter: We started positions in Hon Hai Precision Industry (also known as Foxconn), the largest and the lowest-cost manufacturing contractor for popular electronic products like the iPhone.
