Buy shares of TPK Holding (3673TW) in advance of Apple’s (AAPL) move to organic-light emitting diodes in the iPhone, is the advice of Narci Chang with J.P. Morgan in a note to clients this morning. Chang, who has an Overweight rating on TPK shares, and a price target of 100 New Taiwan Dollars, cites an article from ChinaTimes stating that the company is "said to be the exclusive touch panel lamination supplier for the OLED touch bar on Apple’s new MacBook Pro." This, to Chang, is a run-up to TPK supplying an “iPhone 8,” presumably the next model, coming out sometime next year, which many think will have a radical new design that employs OLED: We believe MacBook Pro’s OLED touch bar adopts an out-cell touch panel structure, with an ITO-glass-based out-cell touch sensor laminated on top of the OLED display that is supplied by Samsung (OW, covered by JJ Park) together with the cover glass.

TPK Holding Co. (3673) , the Taiwanese company that developed touch-screens for Apple Inc.’s first iPhone, appointed a former Foxconn Technology Group executive to lead its turnaround. Michael Chung, who previously headed the Foxconn team that assembles iPhones and iPods, takes over as president and chief executive officer from Tom Sun, who becomes deputy chairman. Wrong-way bets on the future of touch-screen notebooks and delays in production of new, thinner display technologies has caused TPK to lose orders from Apple that contributed to four quarters of revenue declines. While sales rebounded last quarter, they weren’t enough to stave off a loss for the period, prompting Chairman and founder Michael Chiang to invite Chung to take over.
