Applied Minerals, Inc. engages in the research, development, extraction, production, and marketing of halloysite clay and iron oxide. It owns the Dragon Mine, a 267-acre halloysite clay and iron oxide property located in Juab County, Utah. The company markets its halloysite clay-based line of products under the tradename DRAGONITE for various applications, such as flame retardant additives for plastics, nucleation of polymers, reinforcement fillers for polymers, molecular sieves and catalysts, ceramics, binders, cosmetics, cementing, controlled release carriers, and environmental remediation. In addition, it markets iron oxide line of products under the tradename AMIRON for technical applications, such as adsorbents; and other applications that include iron oxide for agricultural use, as an additive in pet food, and for steel casing in foundries, as well as for pigments applications. The Company markets and sells its products directly and through distributors. The company was formerly known as Atlas Mining Company and changed its name to Applied Minerals, Inc. in October 2009. Applied Minerals, Inc. was founded in 1924 and is based in New York, New York.
