Technology job growth in Silicon Valley took a dive in 2016, but other metros like Austin, Seattle and Toronto are positioned to take up the slack. Tech firms added 26,700 new jobs to the nine-county Bay Area in 2016, according to an analysis by The Mercury News , citing figures released by state labor officials and Beacon Economics . The tech industry’s 3.5 percent growth in 2016 is still considered solid, outpacing total job growth of 2.6 percent across all industries in the Bay Area.

Data continues to roll in illustrating just how quiet 2016 was for investors and startups alike. The latest report comes from Crunchbase. According to data provider PitchBook , venture capitalists across the U.S. put roughly $67.8 billion (a 15 percent decrease from 2015) into startups for a total of 7,841 deals.
