    Brazil Banks: Too Big For Technology?

    Brazil's large banks must "rethink their digital strategy" as financial technology companies expand, but so-called "Fintechs" are not likely to threaten the banks' credit profiles, Fitch Ratings said Monday. In a prepared release, Fitch Ratings said Brazil's banking sector "should remain dominated by large traditional banks and remain highly concentrated. Fitch counts roughly 150 Fintechs in Brazil that are growing and "taking advantage of gaps left by large and more conservative banks due to the more challenging operating environment in the past few years." Brazil's big public banks include Itau Unibanco Holding (ITUB), up 75% this year, and Banco Bradesco (BBD (preferred shares) and BBDO), up 112% and 96% respectively.
