The headliner, AT&T (NYSE: T) agreeing to buy Time Warner Inc. (TWX) for $85 billion, is a deal that echoes Comcast’s (CMCSA) move to buy NBC Universal five years ago. As the New York Business Journal noted, this merger would bring a slew of content producers under the same roof, as Time Warner's established distribution businesses — HBO, Turner, CNN, and Warner Bros. Entertainment, among others — would share a corporate home with AT&T’s broadband, pay television and wireless networks. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is among those opposed, with Trump saying he objects to the merger because it has the potential to limit media messaging to an unacceptably small and powerful group, the NYBJ noted.
