HONG KONG (AP) — Cathay Pacific Airways said Wednesday that its profit tumbled in the first half of the year as economic weakness in China and other important markets cut passenger demand while it faced cutthroat competition from rivals.

Cathay Pacific Airways' (293.Hong Kong) revenue fell 9.3% in the first six months of the year, while its profit tumbled 82% to only 353 million Hong Kong dollars. Cathay slashed its dividend payments to HK$0.05, from HK$0.26 previously. China's economic slowdown has caused restrictions to business travel, a highly profitable business.
