Cotton buyers cancel most U.S. bales since Jun 2012, high prices deter

Buyers of U.S. cotton canceled more bales than they purchased in the latest reporting week for the first time since June 2012, U.S. official data showed, validating concerns that high prices have curbed demand. Buyers from six countries canceled at least 67,500 bales of upland cotton in the most recent reporting week, data from the U.S. Agriculture Department (USDA) showed on Thursday, as New York futures hovered near two-year highs above 90 cents a lb. Buyers in Thailand, Mexico, Bangladesh, and Indonesia accounted for the bulk of cancellations. That was the largest number of net cancellations since June 2012, when buyers opted out of at least 602,100 bales, according to USDA data reviewed by Reuters.
