Real estate in Brazil's biggest market to rebound in 2017 -industry

Real estate activity in the greater São Paulo area, Brazil's largest market, should rebound this year as interest rates fall and the government pushes through key economic reforms, a construction industry group said on Tuesday. Housing starts and sales should grow between 5 percent and 10 percent, Secovi-SP chief economist Celso Petrucci said, adding that those figures may be revised upwards by mid-year. The improved outlook would be good news for Cyrela Brazil Realty SA, MRV Engenharia e Participações SA and Eztec Empreendimentos e Participações SA , some of Brazil's largest home builders.

Brazil homebuyers should bear burden of cancellations, Cyrela CEO tells paper

Homebuilder Cyrela Brazil Realty SA Chief Executive Elie Horn said in a newspaper interview published on Friday that he believes clients should lose their down payments if they cancel a residential purchase. Speaking to Valor Economico, Horn adopted his stance as the government, consumer groups and homebuilders are negotiating industry rules for buyers to keep a share of a home's value in the event they scrap its acquisition. Currently, there are no Brazilian industry standards for how much, if any, of a down payment should be returned to a buyer who decides not go ahead with the purchase.
