Great Plains Energy Inc. had to fend off eight other suitors for Westar Energy Inc., and it won the bidding process because it bumped up its initial bid to make it clearly the most lucrative offer. A filing by Kansas City-based Great Plains (GXP) with the Securities and Exchange Commission outlines the entire negotiation with Westar (WR). In early 2015, an analyst caught wind of the discussions and speculated in a report that Westar could have potential interest as a seller.
