    Resignation Of India's Central Banker A Blow To Modi's Reform

    The governor of the Reserve Bank of India is stepping aside, and that’s a blow to the credibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s larger reform agenda, according to Pavilion. The firm writes that the departure will hurt foreign investors’ confidence in the government, and that lower interest rates amid rising inflation will pressure the Indian rupee and crimp banks’ profitability. While interest rates have been falling for some time, Pavilion writes that there’s still more pressure from the government for more rate cuts, which coincides with climbing producer prices, feeding inflation.
