Nearly a quarter century after the first U.S.-based exchange-traded fund was created, the marketplace has finally produced an ETF to play ETF growth. The fund, which tracks an index developed by Toroso Investments flies under the ticker “TETF” as in “the ETF.” Its underlying basket holds publicly-traded companies that directly or indirectly serve the industry including index sponsors, providers, and exchanges. In an interview with Barrons.com, one of the architects Mike Venuto said: “ETFs democratize access, we’re democratizing access to the ETF industry’s growth.” To be sure the industry, now with more than $3.9 trillion in assets and over 2,000 products, is still growing rapidly.
