    Another acquisition in the works for Community Bank parent

    The parent company of Community Bank N.A. plans to head east by acquiring the largest independent bank in Vermont for an estimated $304 million. Community Bank System Inc. (CBU) is on track to acquire Merchants Bancshares Inc. (MBVT) in a cash-and-stock deal that includes $1.9 billion in assets and 32 retail branches. If bank regulators approve the deal, Community Bank’s retail network will cross into Vermont for the first time in its 150-year history.
