Anti-GMO groups that have long organized movements such as "Occupy Monsanto" and "Millions Against Monsanto" are having to rethink their strategies, and their slogans, in light of Bayer AG's planned $66 billion buyout of the company. Environmental activists, who claim genetically modified organisms and pesticides may be harmful to humans and the environment, have spent years printing anti-Monsanto T-shirts and writing anti-Monsanto songs and chants, the Wall Street Journal reports. With the Bayer takeover, analysts expect the use of the Monsanto name to be minimized, although Bayer executives have said it has not determined what names it will use.
