Clinton says Peabody Energy trying to 'shirk' duty to retirees

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Monday took aim at another coal company, saying Peabody Energy Corp is trying to "shirk its responsibilities" to pay the healthcare benefits of retired mine workers. Clinton earlier this month said the restructuring plan suggested by Patriot Coal Corp, which is in the midst of its second bankruptcy in three years, should be stopped because it involved dramatically scaling back the money that would go to paying retiree benefits. Clinton, the front runner for the Democratic nomination, has shown in recent weeks she will not hesitate to go after companies by name.

Bankrupt Patriot Coal issues new notice for its workers

Bankrupt miner Patriot Coal Corp , which is in the midst of auctioning off its assets, has issued a new WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act) notice to its employees. Patriot Coal expects to lay off more than 2,000 workers in West Virginia, the Associated Press reported Tuesday. The new WARN notice from Patriot Coal extended the period from the original WARN notice issued on Aug. 3, 2015, because of a delay in Patriot's bankruptcy case.
