Die CSCO die!@@@@The problem is that large customers rely almost exclusively on Cisco and VMware, and they aren't interested in the open-source switches and open-source hypervisors with open-source management software that's needed to make hybrid SDN actually workable today. VMware's decision is a very public #$%$ move signalling that there can be no co-operation. So for those organizations that can't get beyond the brand loyalty and insist on Cisco and VMware, either Cisco kills VMware or VMware kills Cisco. There is no middle ground, no compromise. One of these two wins all the accounts of those who only believe in market share. The other's SDN ambitions are annihilated.https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/04/20/vmware_end_of_days_for_cisco/
No middle ground, no compromise: VMware blocks Cisco's SDN play

UPCOMING EVENTS Dell Technologies Fiscal Year 2018 First Quarter Results Thursday, June 8, 2017 7:00 a.m. CT
I suspect VMW & Dell took a good look at the ":playing field" and saw AMZN down the line. Who would want to "stay on the tracks" with that freight train coming along?---No Way!!--VMW can stay in the software business with Dell Teck. and survive. I note that VMW just had one of its' systems approved by the DoD for security applications.--

Well that was fast. 13D filing indicates VMW bought $375M worth of shares from Dell today. It will buy another $125M by end of !2/17. Share price TBD but will be based on stock price over a reference period less 3.5% discount. Well at least there's a freakin' discount applied.
@@@On December 16, 2016, EMC Sub became the beneficial owner of 7,885,949 shares of Class A Common Stock, which it received from its direct parent company, EMC, as a capital contribution in order to enable EMC Sub to sell such shares or a portion thereof to the Issuer in the transaction reported in the following paragraph of this Item 5(c). On December 22, 2016, EMC Sub sold 4,775,142 shares of Class A Common Stock at a price of $78.5317 per share to the Issuer, subject to adjustment as indicated below, for a cash payment of approximately $375 million pursuant to a stock purchase agreement, dated as of December 15, 2016, by and among Dell Technologies, EMC Sub and the Issuer (the “Stock Purchase Agreement”). Under the Stock Purchase Agreement, EMC Sub will sell an additional $125 million of Class A Common Stock to the Issuer in a second closing that is expected to occur in the first quarter of Dell Technologies’ 2018 fiscal year. At such time, the final price per share for the shares sold on December 22, 2016 will be determined based on the volume-weighted average price per share of the Class A Common Stock as reported on the New York Stock Exchange during a specified reference period, less a discount of 3.5% from that per share price, subject to adjustment in certain circumstances. The terms of the Stock Purchase Agreement are described in Amendment No. 2 to the Schedule 13D, and a copy of the Stock Purchase Agreement is filed as an exhibit thereto.
Why is VMW helping Dell to increase their stake in the company at zero cost to Dell and at the expense of VMW shareholders? VMW should just buy shares in DVMT. VMW BOD is supposed to act in all VMW shareholders interest, NOT just Dell's.

guess documentum data isn't virtualized...sign of the times is dell selling documentum/part of emc.
First there was the deal with IBM. Now there's a similar one coming with AMZN. Cross-Cloud is shaping up nicely as the end-game for VMW. Meanwhile, all I hear on this board is crickets chirping.
@@@VMware Inc. is set to announce a new partnership around hybrid cloud computing with one of its biggest rivals, Amazon Web Services. Details of the arrangement are sketchy, but a source close to VMware told SiliconANGLE that there is a significant deal that would allow VMware customers to run the company’s software both in their private data centers and on Amazon.com Inc.’s public cloud, a setup known as hybrid cloud. The deal is expected to be announced on Oct. 13, when AWS President Andy Jassy (above) has set a press conference in San Francisco for a “significant announcement.”
