We Energies parent will cut coal emissions despite Trump order

Citing the economic advantages of natural gas and renewable energy versus coal, the CEO of We Energies' parent company said the firm will continue investing in reducing carbon emissions despite President Donald Trump’s pledge to kill federal carbon-reduction requirements. WEC Energy Group already reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 26 percent since 2000, president and CEO Allen Leverett told shareholders Thursday. The company plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to the level required by former President Barack Obama’s Clean Power Plan “much sooner” than the plan’s 2030 deadline, Leverett said.
