Aéropostale, the teen apparel retailer that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the spring, apparently wasn’t in such bad shape after all. The retailer’s new ownership group has lowered its projections for expected store closings and will instead keep 504 of its 720 North American stores open, which is 26 percent more stores than it had projected would stay open after acquiring the brand for $243 million in mid-September. Aéropostale has five stores in the Triangle that will remain open, including one each at Crabtree Valley Mall and Triangle Town Center in Raleigh, the Streets at Southpoint mall and Northgate Mall in Durham, and Carolina Premium Outlet in Smithfield.
