Four years ago, Canadian Michael Penner had the idea for bringing sock production back to a small Hickory-area plant from overseas and selling them in Walmart stores. The new, state-of-the-art Peds Legwear Inc. plant in the Burke County town of Hildebran is up to more than 200 employees from 60 in slightly more than a year. “Basically, we decided to reshore the jobs and bring the jobs back to this country,” says Penner, who is CEO of Peds Legwear, based in Montreal.
