Although Journal Sentinel buyer Gannett Co. Inc. has agreed not to eliminate newsroom jobs after closing its acquisition of the newspaper’s parent company in early 2016, that doesn’t mean the Journal Sentinel’s current owner can’t trim staff — and that’s exactly what is happening. Journal Sentinel president and publisher Betsy Brenner sent a letter Tuesday informing employees of another round of voluntary buyouts. “2015 presented many challenges to our advertising and circulation sales teams.” The voluntary buyout was extended to employees of the Journal Sentinel as well as Journal Media Group’s (JMG) suburban Journal Community Publishing Group including Lake Country Newspapers.

Journal Communications and E.W. Scripps have set April 1 as the closing date for their deal that was announced July 30, 2014.
