Today the Kansas Corporation Commission denied the Petition for Reconsideration filed jointly by Great Plains Energy Incorporated and Westar Energy, Inc.
The attempt by Great Plains Energy Inc. to acquire Westar Energy Inc. has suffered yet another crippling blow from the Kansas Corporation Commission, which denied an application for reconsideration. The two companies filed a formal petition for reconsideration of the KCC’s decision to reject their merger plans in early May. They requested additional time to revisit the $12.2 billion deal to find ways to satisfy the regulatory body's concerns about the price being too high, causing Kansas City-based Great Plains to become over-leveraged and threatening jobs at Westar's corporate headquarters in Topeka.
