As the most expensive campaign ever (finally) comes to its conclusion, there's an ongoing debate about whether the $1.6 billion raised by Presidential candidates was well spent, or even enough.
But few people could argue that the high level of engagement and donations by individual Americans is a bad thing. Over 90% of the $640 million raised by Barack Obama came from individuals, and the bulk of that was contributions under $200. John McCain also fared well among individual donors but, as with the overall tally, failed to match Obama's fund-raising with average Americans, as the following tables reveal:

Size of Donations

So what about Obama opting out of public financing after promising otherwise? Or whether there should be any limitations on campaign donations -- from corporations or individuals alike?
Now those are issues worth debating.
All those untrackable contributions..couldn't they have come from one person contributing one million times, hiring groups of people to make the contributions? Plus, aren't small donations like that given higher matching contributions?
Funny thing Obama got 200 million from his web site and most of the money came from foreign credit cards being used to make the donations. Maybe Iran or his Muslin brothers?
Are these donations from the same dead people who registered to vote?
Yes, it's all our fault...the little guys donate big time because so much is at stake!
You guys do a better job of discussing stocks (and related) than in presenting political stump speeches. Stick to what you do best and do not spoil what has usually been a fairly good site to visit for information. Thank you.
As the voting results come in, and it is becoming more apparent that Mr. Obama will be the next President, changing his commitment about "opting out of public financing after promising otherwise," will only be the first in a long string of broken campaign promises. And it isn't so much that he intends to break his promises to the American public, as it is that he won't be successful in implementing many of the promises that got him elected. Many of the changes Mr. Obama has stumped during his campaign will require bi-partisan support in order to pass. In order to gain such support, concessions will likely have to be made which will invariabley make the changes less effective or otherwise face defeat.
Fraud and scandal oh well Nicaragua is accepting Americans

"Funny thing Obama got 200 million from his web site and most of the money came from foreign credit cards being used to make the donations. Maybe Iran or his Muslin brothers?" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAHA...how sad
McCain has use for 84,000,000$ of federal funds and Obama 0$. McCain always brags about not taxing American people. Now, how does he think that 84,000,000$ came from. LOL
I do not believe Mr rob w (above). If that is the case same would have applied to McCain. I can see 2 good reason 1. Ethnic and Others think that if Obama wins they ( future children) also have a chance and 2. The economic crices and the spending by bushes (both) our money on wars.
Why hasn't Obama donated or returned the illegal contributions? Why has his website turned off the address verification system? Why has his campaign solicited overseas donors in violation of federal law?
wait wait: if the whole thing costs $1.6 billion, where is the rest of themoney coming from? Here I see only $640 million for Obama and $360 million of McCain, for a total of $1billion. Where are the other $600 million?

Interesting almost everybody in the US must have contributed to Obama 600,000,000 people. I know few of them. I guess they must have been Dead or foriegn paople claiming to be citizens. LOL That just does not happen in the democrat party does it?
Obama got his financial support from his muslim brothers and the anty white voters.

Most of the "individual" contributors lived in middle east and Europe who have found way to influence our election.
