Rise of Online Journalism: Blogs Come of Age

TechCrunch's editor Michael Arrington said his recent decision to take a leave of absence resulted, in part, from blogs like Kara Swisher's AllThingsD saying unfair things about him.

Did AllThingsD take cheap shots?

Or has online journalism merely grown to be important  enough that it's time that reporting and professionalism standards need to rise?

The latter, says Swisher, who has often taken TechCrunch's sourcing to task. And she applauds Dow Jones, The New York Times, and other traditional media companies for jumping into the blogging game.

Over the next few years, Kara says, "blogs" will become even more important within the global media industry. And, as they do, they gradually meet higher professional standards.

And TechCrunch's Arrington, she says, will be back.
