Saturday, November 22, 2008, 3:17AM ET - U.S. Markets Closed.
In the days before online news sites, bloggers, and the 24-hour news cycle, a story wasn't a story until it was in The New York Times.
Those times are long gone, but the Times is still living in the past, at least judging by this headline Tuesday: "The Guessing Game Has Begun on the Next iPhone."
Stop the presses!
It's as if the past several months of breathless anticipation over the timing and features of the 3G iPhone never happened -- or just started. Just yesterday, as I wrote here, some Apple watchers were atwitter about a report on ImportGenius.com about Apple shipments that might possibly be iPhone-related.
While it seems as if there's endless iPhone hype and speculation, the bottom line is that Apple's bottom line is really being driven by Macintosh sales. The good news: Mac sales are growing rapidly as Windows' stranglehold on the corporate market starts to break down.
The other news: Anyone waiting for the release of the 3G iPhone before buying Apple's stock is setting themselves up for a fall, as that is a classic "buy the rumor, sell the news"-type situation.
I can't wait to get rid of my Windows "smart" phone Cingular 8125. I'm just glad I'm already on AT&T. Faster network, sync with corp email, 3rd party applications, those are the things we know for certain. Then there are rumors of GPS and 2-way video conferencing ... it can't miss.
masterkaramavros77 why do you have to hate on Apple, you work for Dell or Microsoft? That would be the only reason I would be saying that.
Get rid of Blodgett now!!! He lied to investors during the dotcom bubble. In one instance he recommended buying Infospace while writing an internal memo saying it was a piece of junk and a bomb ready to explode. Then leaves Merrill Lynch with a 7 million severance to go away while the SEC investigates. The result: Small investors lost alot of their life's savings and Blodgett is back as a well paid commentator on stock again.....OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!
Talk about fluff! Sure hope who ever wrote this stuff doesn't get paid much. As long as you think of Apple as a computer company you will miss the boat. Perhaps, computer sales are still very important to the Apple bottom line, but computer sales are up because of familiarity and love of the other products. (And the utter failure of VISTA). Creativity, marketing, design, vision these are what build a high tech company, and Apple is the best by far at what they do. And, unlike a start up they have great personnel resources, a flexible and responsive structure, a market identity and $18 billion in cash to make strategic purchases.
I have always been a Yahoo fan over Google, I especialy like the fact that Yahoo added even better charts an re putting more into Yahoo finance, But..........Tech Ticker is a waste of space for more thn one eason, but this is enough right here ............In April of 1999, Henry Blodget was touting eToys because of its early-mover advantage. He said the e-tailer would continue to lead "despite increasing competition from Amazon.com, toysrus.com...and, possibly, KBtoys.com." EToys went bust in 2001 and its assets were purchased by K-B Toys. and the list goes on an on and on...........show some class Yahoo..............
Mac has about 7% of US market - less of world market. Therefore potential growth is even higher. 14 million iPhones sales (as at least one analyst predicts) is no small peanuts. Also - they drive Mac sales. The questions for the June 9 keynote are: 1- 3G iPhone announced? 2- When start shipping? 3- Features? 4- *** What apps are available now? *** Unless #3 has something really startling, #4 is what is the potential WOW factor. Video conferencing? WOW Skype? WOW Also the results of the corporate beta testing. If Fortune 100 CEO gets up with positive testimony of results with push email - WOW. IMHO
Ugghhh. Corporate IT sales are getting slashed. Check out Netapp. So even if this was true and it is not corporations are not buying Macs. Geezish Krist. Will this brainless pumping never end. Check out handset sales in Europe. Consumer slowdown. Yeah, they want mid price and cheap phones and plans. This stock is ready for a 2000-2001 epic fall. All bagholders aboard?
APPLE RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN NOT WAIT TO GET THE 3G IPHONE
i just heard a 6-7 year old passing in front of an Apple store ask for an IPOD. WOW that is market clout !! (mom said no way) . APPLE is the future !
AT&T will be the stock to bye because of Apple.

Please, for the love of God, get rid of Henry Blodget. He should be giving in advice in jail. Yahoo, please show a smidgen of self respect and fire this guy.
