Woz-Bing! Apple Co-Founder a "Big Fan" of Microsoft's New Search Engine

Posted May 28, 2009 03:51pm EDT by Aaron Task in Internet, Newsmakers
CARLSBAD, CALIF. - Microsoft's new search engine Bing was unveiled Thursday and can already boast about a rousing endorsement from an unexpected source: Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

"That was the most astounding software demo I've every seen," Wozniak tells Tech Ticker after seeing Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer unveiled Bing at the All Things Digital Conference here.

To be sure, Wozniak's expectations were low and he's withholding judgment until he gets a chance to really use the engine. But he's "a big fan" and impressed enough to give Bing a try, which is probably all Ballmer & Co. could hope for.

Stay tuned for part II of my interview with Wozniak, where the Valley legend addresses:

  • Steve Jobs' health and his problem with yesterday's Wall Street Journal story on the subject.
  • The technology and products he's working on as chief scientist at Fusion-IO
  • His recent stint on "Dancing with the Stars."

Right On Woz........search is only a tool that performs a function.......and the better the function is matched with how human thought works the........better the SEARCH ENGINE!!!! Understanding and building SEARCH is really an existential thing..........a mental thing.........a MIND THING!!!!!!! Making software function better is about making it self aware and self critical along the edge of performace.

I'm surprised and I think Bing might be a little better than I was expecting.

remember msn live search? and doesn't windows vista give you website previews before you click? how much better can the algorithims get, i mean, are they trying to replace human diligence? software shouldn't have to do everything. anyways, nothing beats google's engine, but i'll check it out when it launches.

What will BING say when I search for "The world's best value and full-featured computer?" Will it tell me to get a Mac?
