Apple Denies Steve Jobs Is Ailing, but Concerns Linger

Posted Jun 11, 2008 11:30am EDT by Aaron Task in Electronics, Newsmakers

Is Steve Jobs sick again?

It's not pleasant or even polite to ask, and we certainly hope the answer is no. But the question is being asked in the aftermath of Apple's Developers Conference, where Jobs looked particularly thin -- and arguably gaunt.

In response to inquiries, Apple says Jobs is recovering from a "common bug," The Wall Street Journal reports.

Obviously this is a sensitive issue. But given the history -- Jobs had surgery in 2004 for a rare form of pancreatic cancer (something Apple didn't disclose until after the fact) -- and his importance to the company, his health is a legitimate concern for Apple shareholders.

IT IS TRUE THAT THE FOUNDER IS THE FOUNDED, ONLY HE CAN DIFFUSE THE COMPANY WITH HIS DREAMS, ENTHUSIASM AND VIGOR. THIS IS TRUE OF ALL COMPANIES, EVEN BIG ONES AND NOT ONLY FAMILY CORPS. EXAMPLE GATES, BUFFET ET AL. GATES HAS BEEN PARTLY LUCKY WITH HIS BALLMER. BUT, GATES IS BEHIND MSFT STILL. ONE THING STEVE JOBS SHOULD DO NOW IS PERPETRATE HIS LEGACY. HE SHOULD FOUND A JOBS INST OF COMPUTER SCIENCE, DEVOTED TO ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE, ROBOTS AND BIOCHEMICAL GENETICS. THE CROP FROM SUCH AN INSTITUTE WILL PERPETRATE HIS LEGACY AND APPLE AS WELL.

the usefulness was simply to call out what everyone was thinking - the dude looks rough. as a shareholder, i'd like to know what the succession plan is longterm for his role...

So...Apple was asked about Steve and stated that he wasn't ailing but you guys still keep talking about it. Do you think Apple is lying? Just what is it that you'd like to hear?

No. 2002 to 2008 is a full 6 years. At his age, a lot of aging can happen. He's just older now. If it does turn out that he is seriously ill, that can be bad for the stock. Steve Jobs is the whole company.

More useless rumor-mongering. Many of the internet's financial outlets are really no better than the National Enquirer these days.

Steve Jobs is a very smart man. He has surrounded himself with people who will carry on "if" he needs to step back. Apple is not going anywhere. It is a very creative and profitable company.

Well the man accomplished alot and at this time of his life he should think about how he can make peace with the Lord. Maybe start praying on Saturday "the 7th day", like should everyone else. Start following the 10 Laws "The 10 Commandments". One thing we cannot dodge is death. Man might want to use your technology, but The Lord God wants to use your soul, and as the saying goes, "Great powers comes with great responsibilities". No one can deny that Mr. Jobs wasn't given a great mind "power". Well it is time to give The Lord Jesus his due. Well if he ever gets to read this comment. He should know with faith in The Lord Jesus he can beat anything. The Lord God has blessed us with his Son who have conquered death.

The guy has obviously been working really hard recently. Doesn't mean he has some life threatening condition. His appearance isn't "alarming". What a couple of drama queens...

Why are they comparing a 2002 picture to a 2008 picture of Steve Jobs? They should put up the 2008 picture of Steve Jobs at the Mac World with the one two days ago.

He looks pretty fit to me - compared to the 2002 photo.

Enough speculation already on Mr. Jobs health. He is a great innovator and a good man. Whatever he has may he soon recover fully and continue his magnificent achievements. God bless him.

He doesn't look good, but it doesn't mean he is sick. He is a great guy but he didn't invent everything and Apple singlehandedly and not every idea comes from him. There is a great creative staff there.
