Global Warming Is a Myth: James Altucher Says Invest for a Colder Planet

Posted Oct 27, 2009 02:48pm EDT by Tech Ticker in Investing
Global warming is a myth, or at least far from certain, according to James Altucher, managing director of Formula Capital.

"Peak temperatures world wide were hit in 1998 and the world has been cooling ever since," Altucher says. Over the same time period, carbon emissions have gone straight up. "Does that mean the linkage between carbon emissions and temperature is not real?," he wonders. "Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But so far in the past 10 years the evidence is there's no linkage."

Noting there's arguments and counterarguments on both sides of the global warming debate, Altucher declares: "Nobody really knows" whether the globe is heating or cooling or how much is manmade and how much is just the Earth's natural cycle.

For investors, Atucher says the message is clear: Avoid solar stocks, since solar power is "never efficient" without massive government subsidies.

For those looking for ways to invest in a global cooling theme, Altucher recommends Campbell's Soup and American Ecology Group, which does waste management - including nuclear waste.

Global weirding is a more accurate term. I still think this is Steven Hawking's healthy brother.

There is clear warming of the planet. To say "nobody knows" is to give too little credit to scientists and too much credits to people who just say there is no global warming. There is world wide consensus there is global warming, by scientists and academics. Who do you trust? If you trust financial analysts instead of climate scientists on climate change, or give them equal credit...

Unbelievable that he denies the existance of global warming. If he can't believe the extraordinary evidence that global warming is occuring. It is very sad that he speaks as an authority when it is clear he is not an expert in this area. Feel free to invest based on his advice.

Global warming trend is clear. Show me a credible source (scientist or science foundations) anywhere in the world that says there is no global warming! On the other hand, there are many world wide science bodies agreeing there is global warming and that man is causing it. Good grief? How can the oil industry confuse so many people into say "maybe it is maybe it isn't"?

This guy is a crackpot. Even Sarah Palin admitted her icebergs were melting in Alaska, she just was not sure why God wanted it that way.

Where does Altucher come off saying the world has been cooling since 1998? That's a false statement, so you can stop listening to everything else he says after that.
