Give Apple (AAPL) credit for making up for (rare) bad service: The company emailed MobileMe email/syncing customers this week, informing them that they'll be getting 60 days of free service in addition to the 30 days of free service most already received.
From Apple's support site:
The transition from .Mac to MobileMe was rockier than we had hoped. While we are making a lot of improvements, the MobileMe service is still not up to our standards. We are extending subscriptions 60-days free of charge to express appreciation for our members’ patience as we continue to improve the service.
Apple launched MobileMe -- an ambitious update to its old .Mac service -- in July, alongside the new iPhone 3G. Neither has gone flawlessly: MobileMe was a dog and permanently lost some subscribers' email, while the new iPhone reportedly has a radio transmission bug that's made phone and Internet communication flaky for some owners. (Including us.)
In the accompaning video, Henry and I talk about this uncharacteristic misstep for Apple, as well as some better news for the company: A record quarter for Mac sales and a growing presence in the enterprise market. Can Apple fill the gap left by Windows' crumbling hegemony? Or will Dell and HP finally figure out that it's all about design and beat Apple on price?

With the new partitioning software, add ons and virtual machine-type technologies out there Windows will be hard pressed to keep people from migrating to Mac. Like I stated before, with the new Fusion software combined with the Intel Mac hardware, Apple will be tough to beat in the long term. And I agree with chelleb1: with Vista, Microsoft has an uphill battle indeed. bfriesen: I have worked at several large companies with large amounts of internally supported PCs and the Lenovo Thinkpads were by far the best machines I ever had to support. And if you think they were well manufactured, you should have seen the support that IBM had, blows away HP, Dell, and everyone else in the space. Instead of waiting for the part to be shipped from the warehouse via Fedex, UPS, or DHL the guys would actually drive down to JFK and throw the part on a passenger jet, have the local tech go out and pick it up from the airport, and then come and install it by end of day. In this day and age, service like that is un-be-lieve-able. =)
Let's see: Apple stole its corporate name from the Beatles. The iPhone name from Cisco. Touchscreen cell phone design from LG's Prada. Copied Windows-based PC's on using Intel chips. Copied(stole) Xerox's GUI. And Apple steals countless technologies from small companies and tells them to sue. Yep, Apple is surely an innovative company! For the person who thinks Mac sales will constitute 20% of PC sales, here are some facts. According to Gartner, Mac represented 8% of US PC sales however, US sales are slowing and Apple has no meaningful offshore distribution channels. As a percent of total PC sales, Mac is less than 2% and the bulk of its future growth is harnessed to a slowing US market. Mac sales, as a percent of total PC sales, peaked in 1994. All facts. And for those who may be considering switching to Mac, do yourself a favor. Go to Apple.com and drill down into support/troubleshooting and you will find 150 problems listed with Mac. Same for OS-X, etc. And....Apple limits the number of problems to 150 per product. Ve don't want bad publicity now do ve!!!!
Microsoft stole, lied and cheated its way to dominance and now only has its monopoly to keep it in business. Vista was an attempt to copy OSX and failed miserably. Apple's support forums do not have number limits on threads. You may see 10 pages linked but if you click on the 10th page you will then see the next 10, etc. So Apple is not trying to hide anything. And that doesn't mean each thread is a different problem. If you know anything about help forums the same question may be answered dozens of times. The great thing about Macs is that most 'troubleshooting' can be done by the individual successfully. And many of those questions are from switchers who need information on features unknown in the Windows world or unfamiliar key commands. Sales in general are slowing but not Macs. They are increasing at two to three times the rate of other manufacturers, about 40 percent each quarter. More and more businesses are realizing that the Mac makes 'cents' (actually dollars) in more ways than one. ;-)

Apple gets more positive out of bad news than the other guys do out of good. Way to go, All!!
Apple has always been the industry leader and always will be, even if they have a blip here or there along the way. Why? Because they consistently come up with innovative, creative products that also incorporate fun into them. They do this while also making their products easy enough for the most technically illiterate person to use. It's a formula that will never be beaten. Apple followers will never be swayed away from Apple because once you've had the best anything else is of no interest.
Anyone who know Apple's history knows they did not steal their name from the Beatles. That's a very, very old rumor. Apple even won the lawsuit that was filed against them regarding that. Please, go read some of the many books out there on the very early days of Apple's beginning and you'll read the real story about how they settled on the name.
This 'Apple expert' just isnt very knowledgeable. OSX is a superb operating system - its foolish to compare the Vista rubbish with it.

somebody above wrote--"The only problem with your post is that HP and Dell both sell similarly equipped products for about $500.00 LESS." The only problem with HP and Dell is that they require windoze to run!
