Lacy to Facebook CEO: 'You Don't Really Think You're Worth $15B, Do You?'

Posted Mar 11, 2008 06:35pm EDT by Sarah Lacy in Internet, Newsmakers, Venture Capital, M and A, IPOs
It was big news last October when Microsoft beat out Google to take a stake in Facebook. One reason: the deal put a $15B valuation on the social-networking phenom. In this excerpt from Sunday's keynote at South by Southwest, Mark Zuckerberg tells Sarah Lacy: it's not about the money. Oh, and yes, he probably will go public one day.

Lacy is a terrible interviewer. There are so many things she could ask, and all she focuses on is if Facebook will go public, be bought, or what the company is worth.

At the beginning Lacy pulls that ditzy, I'm so adorable, batty eyed act, that totally compromises her integrity as a journalist. This guy is obviously very bright, yet he always comes across as a 23 year old doing a bad Steve Jobs imitation.

Yahoo founded long long back 44B , why can facebook be 15B, may be a few hundred million(200Mil) should be good enough.

I agree with you guys, Lacy is really not cut out to ask good questions. I would rather have Aaron ask the more in depth questions. This Company will be the next Google and will probably go public one day and having the opportunity to ask the CEO excellent questions would be a plus for us investors and up the credibility of Tech Ticker as a place to come for whats going on with Technology firms. peace out AT

facebook is so overhyped and overpriced it's reaching the ridiculous heights of the bubble days back then. re this interview -- (1) boring delivery by zuckerberg: for that matter, he could well be talking about myspace, and 95% of what he's saying are still true. (2) terrible interviewer by lacy: this woman is so full of herself, she seems more interested in promoting herself than helping audience understand zuckerberg and facebook by asking probing and interesting question. feg, what's the point of almost humiliating ur interviewee by reciting his nervousness in past interviews?

lacy is a ditz...she is not a journalist by any definition...why is she answering her own questions...let the guy talk and listen to what he is saying and follow-up intelligently...i would have liked to see blodget interview him or some one with real tech creds...what an opportunity to get some info...instead it is a puff piece...overly casual in its tone and not a journalistic undertaking at all...it's barely entertainment...

The guy is definitely right. Let's focus on the customer and their needs, then talk money.

Wow... what a lucky guy. He's not very intelligent from what I have seen. He simply repeats himself over and over only changing the wording slightly.
