The Real Way to Profit from Social Networking

Posted Mar 20, 2008 11:15am EDT by Sarah Lacy in Internet, Media
When I caught up with Charlene Li recently we talked about a new idea the Forrester Research analyst has been championing: Making social networking less of a locked-down portal, and more something that just permeates the Web. Such an idea flies in the face of all traditional advertising-based businesses. Even Google, needs you to come to its site first before sending you around the Web. But Li explains why it could be the next frontier in targeted marketing.

OMG, this is completely ridiculous.. she is so full of herself. These analysts get paid to sit around and think of stupid stuff to sell reports. Without a business model to dream of this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. She claims that media buyers dictate frequency and reach, but last I checked they are acting on behalf of advertisers who actually give them the money to buy ads with and they demand those things. Without that, her concept is not worth a penny. Maybe she can create a non profit open source concept... oh wait, analysts dont do stuff for free either...

In a majority of cases this is a pipe dream. Many individuals and business people make their own decisions. Many have been networking for centuries. Many just don't believe that others not familiar with their needs can help them. I was in advertising once. Let her go there and change every thing for them.
