Jeff Bezos: The New Steve Jobs?

Posted Oct 13, 2008 07:27pm EDT by Sarah Lacy in Investing, Internet, Media

Sure, the Valley is full of rock star founders who took an idea and built it into a publicly-traded powerhouse. But very few founders show an ability to continually reinvent their business and change with the times. That's why very few founders stay CEO for a considerable length of time. Steve Jobs of Apple and Larry Ellison of Oracle are among the few, with an honorable mention for Bill Gates, who at least stayed chairman of Microsoft until recently.

My guest Om Malik of GigaOm says the closest thing we have to that from the Internet era is Jeff Bezos, and a Sunday New York Times piece on ascendancy of Amazon as the new eCommerce darling backs him up.

Malik and I discussed what Bezos has done so well, and what other CEOs should learn from him.
