VCs Doubling Down on Winners

Posted Apr 25, 2008 03:35pm EDT by Sarah Lacy in Internet, Media, Venture Capital, M and A, IPOs, Information Technology, Recession
Not everyone's hurting in a recession. There's a strong trend in the last six months of once capital efficient media and Web startups are raising big $50 million to $100 million mega-deals of venture capital. The fear is that a recession is going to hit ad spending, and these companies want to be ready. My guests Sharon Wienbar, Pascal Levensohn and Jessica Canning discuss the trend with me, and how some systematic changes in the capital markets are making mega deals all the more necessary in today's startup world.

We get it Sarah, you're hip. Dress more respectfully for your guests and viewers.

I agree! It's Valley Girl Journalism and I hope it stops here!

I also agree with eyecre8it, Sarah, you seem knowledgable and competent, but your mode of dress is just not appropriate for your position, nor is the use of the word "screwed" which you have been using more lately. It is not professional and you are losing credibility with some/many of the viewers. Please heed these viewe's comments.

Dear Sarah, Excellent choice of guests, and a good interview all around. Keep it up, including your attire. eyecre8it, mdncad, Duke of Earl, please stop wasting good real estate with your emotional needs. You all have pretty avatars and funny names, and you go to Yahoo for financial direction. Something is wrong with this picture. Creativity is only for consumers ? In a world of Yahoo eye candy there are boundaries? I'm pretty sure none of the guests were offended or felt disrespected, they all knew they were at Yahoo!!

Why would you care what she is wearing? It's about was she is talking about.

I agree with To Trent. If you are coming to Yahoo expecting it to be like CNN, you need to rethink why you came here in the first place. Yahoo is meant to deliver this information in a fun way, not the same old snore fest that you might get from other outlets. I do agree that the attire was a little extreme, I think it would have been more appropriate if they were all wearing the same type of attire rather than Sarah dressed like she's going to the club and the panel dressed like they are at the office.

This is not sesame street. Sarah's attire shows a lack of respect for her guests and viewers. And YAHOO is wonder why Microsoft is about to treat them like a stepchild.

Great clip and content, but she did look like an elf - or snow white with a skirt when they panned out - in that outfit. I am in Tech and wear jeans every day :) and am ok with her dressing to tech, but always dress to who you are meeting with. That's the rule for all business meetings as far as I've ever known.

I don't get the "lack of respect" deal that some of you are trying to lay on her. That's so 19th century! I do however find her 70's hip chick style a bit of a mismatch for serious chat about the Street. The intent is obviously to attract a young (non-puritanical) male audience. viewerwhocares

Okay, now that I am not focused on finance and I can relax little more. I must say Sarah's appearance kinda reminds me of a cute little cupcake with a just a little icing and a candle on top just for me ! She looks quite delicious in fact !! Pascal on the other hand... what does he think this is ? Brilliant insight, but still, an open collar? no tie? I'm surprised he wasn't sporting bed head... cuz thats okay !!! ... I jest ! Personally I've never heard of or seen Sarah before this clip. So I looked her up and it turns out she is a known 'personality' and that along with her smarts is what got her where she is today. One way to make a career for yourself. It has something to do with leading and following I think... So good for her I say, I'm now a fan.

Her wardrobe distracts from what she's saying and what her guests are saying. Yikes!
