Why Is Obama's Chief of Staff Already Distancing Himself From the President?

Posted Mar 08, 2010 08:46am EST by Henry Blodget in Healthcare Information, Newsmakers, Politics

Washington D.C. loves to talk, and one of the favorite topics last week was about how White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel had advised President Obama to put off health-care reform until the country was less obsessed about the economy...and that the President had not taken this advice.

In the inner circles, the talk was not so much about whether Emmanuel had been right about health care and President Obama wrong, but who had leaked this difference of opinion to the press.

Presidential advisors give presidents advice they don't take all the time -- and those advisors don't then go crying to the press about how they were right and the President was wrong.

According to Craig Gordon, chief White House editor for Politico, Rahm Emmanuel has told people that he wasn't the one leaking this information to the press. And whether or not that's the case, it begs the question why information like this is leaking at all.

Is the Obama White House already beginning to fracture?  Is Rahm Emmanuel trying to distance himself from the President?

Inquiring minds -- in Washington and elsewhere -- want to know!
