Acquisition Latest News: FTC Finalizes Google Standard-essential Patent Deal

Wochit 1:15 mins

The Federal Trade Commission has finalized its settlement with Google over the company's alleged misuse of the standards-essential patents it gained as part of its $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility in 2011. The final order requires Google to license those standards-essential patents on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory or FRAND terms, and prevents the company from using them as a weapon against rivals by seeking product injunctions and importation bans based on them. The board of Vodafone would seriously consider any offer for its 45 percent stake in Verizon Wireless if it offered more value to investors than the current status quo. Vodafone's US partner, Verizon Communications, has made little secret of its desire to buy out Vodafone in a deal that would have a possible price tag of around $120 billion. Cisco said that it reached a deal to buy computer network security company Sourcefire for about $2.37 billion in cash.
