Amazon Takes The Wraps Off Its First 'Fire' Smartphone

by TheStreet 1:32 mins

Amazon took the wraps off its latest product on Wednesday. The company unveiled its first smartphone called Fire. The new phone includes two gigabytes of ram with a 4.7-inch display and it's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The most interesting feature is the capability of displaying three-dimensional images. Tech fanatics are also anticipating the gesture control feature, as in it can detect eyeball movements. Amazon wants to disrupt the smartphone arena that's dominated by Apple and Samsung. The phone is now out, but the price remains a mystery. A big part of Fire Phone's potential will depend on how much it ultimately costs. Amazon must make the price attractive enough to take customers away from others. AT&T will be the exclusive carrier of Fire Phone. T-Mobile CEO John Legere said exclusivity hurts customers and didn't hide his disappointment for not chosen. He tweeted, "Really, @Amazon? What happened to home-town pride?" Julia Sun reports from Wall Street.
