Awards and Events News Pop: 2013 Emmy Drama Acting Nominees: House of Cards's Kevin Spacey and Scandal's Kerry Washington Rock the TV Vote!

by Wochit 1:18 mins

The 2013 Emmy nominations are out and the top awards are a mix of old and new. Jon Hamm and Bryan Cranston return as nominees for their roles in Mad Men and Breaking Bad. Kerry Washington nabbed a nod for her work on the ABC drama Scandal but Kevin Spacey and his Netflix show House of Cards stole some political thunder with 9 nominations. The Emmy Awards are television's biggest celebration of itself, but this year's ceremony will face an intruder: "House of Cards," the first online series to nab a top nomination with its best drama series bid Thursday. Netflix's triumph, which includes nods for its revival of "Arrested Development," is putting a further squeeze on the broadcast networks that already have lost substantial Emmy ground to cable. Today, we live in a world where Netflix is receiving Emmy nominations. The streaming video company received an unprecedented number of Emmy nominations -- 14 in all. That included nine nominations for Kevin Spacey-led political drama House of Cards, three for Arrested Development, and two for Hemlock Grove.
