Wochit 1:03 mins

Congressional aides in the Senate and House of Representatives said that they were notified by email of a potential security risk involving email and other accounts. Army General Martin Dempsey, speaking to a Senate panel considering his nomination to a new two-year term as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said steep, across-the-board budget cuts have left American armed forces out of balance and less prepared to meet new security threats, a problem that can only worsen with new reductions on the horizon. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke weighed into the contentious debate over the future of the U.S. housing finance system, saying some sort of backstop for mortgages was needed to protect the financial system in times of stress.
