Disaster & Accident Breaking News: Pilots Relied on Autopilot Before San Francisco Crash

Wochit 1:07 mins

The pilots of Asiana Flight 214 that crashed at San Francisco airport have told investigators they were relying on automated cockpit equipment to control their speed, turning a focus of the accident investigation toward whether a mistake was made setting the autothrottle or if it malfunctioned. NTSB Federal accident investigators say two flight attendants working in the back of the Asiana Airlines jet that crash landed in San Francisco were ejected from the back of the plane after impact and survived. Canadian authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the fiery wreck of a runaway oil train in Lac-Megantic as the death toll climbed to 15, with dozens more bodies feared buried in the burned-out ruins. Quebec police Inspector Michel Forget (Forjay?) said investigators have "discovered elements" that have led to a criminal probe. He gave no details but ruled out terrorism.
