Dollar General's Pursuit of Family Dollar a Boost for Shareholders

Shares of Dollar Tree took a hit Monday morning after news broke that Family Dollar has a bigger, better bid: from Dollar General, which will easily become the biggest discount retailer in the U.S. if it is successful with its $9.7 billion offer. Early Monday, shares of Dollar General are up, as the markets respond positively to its news, and Dollar Tree shares fall, although investors don't believe the bidding war is over yet, because they are closing in on $80 a share, Family Dollar stock is already trading above Dollar General's offer price.
