Egypt's new president Adli Mansour has backed away from an announcement that pro-reform leader Mohamed Elbaradei would be the interim prime minister. President Barack Obama condemned the violence in Egypt and said that the United States was not working with any particular Egyptian political party or group as the country reels from a military takeover. Egypt's new president moved to assert his authority by naming Mohamed ElBaradei , a chief rival of ousted leader Mohammed Morsi as interim prime minister and holding crisis talks with security officials on efforts to reclaim control of the streets.
