by Wochit 0:59 mins

A senior judge was sworn in as Egypt's interim president to replace ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi as the military launched a major crackdown against the Muslim Brotherhood. Reeling from what it called a military coup against democracy, the group said it would not work with the new political system. Chief justice of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adli Mansour, was sworn in as the acting head of state, one day after the country?s first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi, was deposed by the military following days of mass protests and deadly street clashes. Rights groups are decrying a crackdown by Egyptian authorities on media considered sympathetic to ousted President Mohammed Morsi, shutting down four religious stations, banning the Muslim Brotherhood's newspaper and raiding the office of Al-Jazeera Live Egypt.
