Egypt Breaking News: Egyptian President Morsi Ousted

by Wochit 1:03 mins

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has been ousted by the country's military, which said that new elections will be called after a week of turmoil in the north African country. Despite mass street demonstrations by millions of his opponents, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, the country's first freely elected leader, has vowed he will not leave office. Egypt's military has moved to tighten its control of key institutions, sending troops backed with armored vehicles to the heart of Cairo and slapping a travel ban on Morsi and top allies in preparation for an almost certain push to remove the Islamist president. Army troops backed by armor and including commandos have deployed across much of the Egyptian capital, surrounding protests by the president's supporters, and at key facilities and major intersections.
