Fmr. BP CEO Says Russia Actually Wants a Stable Ukraine

TheStreet 2:29 mins

Former BP CEO Lord John Browne says Russia's involvement in Ukraine was largely due to the perceived popularity among Russians for such action by President Putin. Despite the escalation of violence in Ukraine, Browne says Russia would not welcome a very unstable Ukraine for a very long time. Browne says Russia's agenda had become too narrow, with a focus on oil and gas, in a global setting. Browne also says the latest posturing by the Putin government against LGBT rights may have been to gain favor with the Russian population rather than a true expression of some deeply held values by the Russian president.
