Google News Byte: Chromecast May Just Be the Beginning of Google's Assault on the Living Room

A new report suggests that Chromecast may just be phase one of Google's plan to take over the living room. According to The Wall Street Journal, the company showcased a prototype of an Android-powered set-top box to select individuals as early as the Consumer Electronics Show this past January. Maps are where it's at. Just ask Google, which bought maps app Waze for more than $1 billion, or Apple, which snapped up two small mapping startups earlier this month. Google finally took the wraps off of its much rumored next-generation Nexus 7 tablet. But analysts suggest that Nexus 7 sales will miss sales estimates by a potentially wide margin, and the real star of the show where Google devices are concerned is the upcoming Moto X smartphone.
