Holiday shopping: Hot tech, online buys surge early
Black Friday 2015 got into swing with big sale promotions, but the doorbusters follow days of heavy discounts already on store websites. Technology is a hot ticket online and off, seen luring shoppers away from fashion and housewares Target on Friday said Thanksgiving was its biggest day for online sales yet, driven largely by electronics. It gave away $100 gift cards with the purchase of an Apple Watch and $250 gift cards with an iPhone 6S. Apple iPads were top sellers in store and online, Target said, with the Nintendo Wii U the top seller on Target.com. After Thanksgiving Weekend comes Cyber Monday, traditionally the busiest day of the year for online stores like Amazon. Forty-three million items were ordered there on Cyber Monday last year, and this year Amazon expects a record 2015 holiday season.
